When I went to see the orthopaedic doctor at
the famous sports medicine center, or rather
the sports medical centre, I really did not have
the faintest idea of what osteoarthritis is .
All I know is that my 80 year old mum has
problems walking and standing up after
prolonged seating, and everyone says that
she has arthritis .... which is a sign of old age.
So after telling the orthopaedic specialist of
my problems --- particularly the stiffness and
tightness of the finger joints and how it tend
to move from finger to finger --- he then sent
me to do an x-ray of my hands, plus a blood
and urine test.
But when the test results came back, he said
that I was perfectly fine !!
.... no inflammation of the joints .....
.... no degenerative disease of the joints
.... no finger bone fracture or cracks
.... no nerve disorders of the hands
.... no musculoskeletal problems
" But doctor, if I am fine ... then how come
I am having all these pain at the joints ? "
" Well ... I suspect that you are going
through the early stage of osteoarthritis
.... the symptoms of arthritis in hands
are all there, like pain and mild inflammation"
replied the doctor.
I was told that there is absolutely no need
to abstain from eating certain types of food,
or to stop doing certain activities. In short,
I was told to carry on with my life.
For everyone of us will experience some
form of arthritis as we grow older..... it is
either sooner or later .....
And the bad news is that there is NO CURE
for arthritis !!
So I left the clinic with a one month supply of
anti-inflammation pills, and the referral letter
to see the physiotherapist ......
